Herb Hooks - Small Copper
A traditional way of preserving and keeping herbs and natural dye plants for winter use is to hang and dry them.
My experience with herbsmithing has taught me that I often need to move or rotate my bunches of herbs around a bit to help facilitate a better drying process, and to avoid mould or dust etc. I learned that it can be really fiddly and annoying to untie knots and faff about with re-tieing everything.
I made the first crude herb hanging hooks for myself several years ago out of bent paperclips (which often ended up snapping after extended use). But then it occurred to me that perhaps I ought to use my jewellery skills to make a more refined and long-lasting version … after all, our herbs are precious and hard-won, so why not treat them as well as possible?
Each s-bend Herb Hook is individually hand-made by me in my studio from recycled metals, and they are specifically designed to hang herbs, plants, twigs, foraged gleanings etc. They are extremely strong and can take as much as you can realistically load on them without bending, weakening or snapping. The Herb Hooks are primarily designed to work in conjunction with my unbleached linen Herb Hangers, enabling you to rotate and re-organise your herb harvest as it dries.
The Herb Hooks are available in various sizes and metals, and can be used year after year. They are packed in a handy card storage tube so you won’t lose them when not in use. The tube is adorned with a handwritten label inscribed in green hawthorn ink made to a 19th century recipe.
The small copper Herb Hooks come in packs of six. Each hook is 1.5cm tall.
