YARN STORY
The yarn I used to weave this supersoft scarf was hand-dyed by small batch indie dyers. The fine greeny-mustard stripes in the warp are made from a sock yarn which is a blend of merino wool and yak wool with around 20% nylon. I loved the colour so much I forgot to check the composition! Nylon is a very common ingredient in most sock yarns, as it helps to keep the integrity of the sock structure and reduce wear and tear. It’s my policy to exclude manmade fibres from my weaving; this one was an accident that slipped through!
The stitch finishing at the fringe ends is also mismatched; only one end of the scarf has a stitch border. This scarf spent so many months on my loom last summer waiting for me to finish it, by the time it was time to cut her off I had completely forgotten the pattern and technique. I tried to replicate it, but it looked so bad I thought it better to leave it off entirely. Thankfully, it isn’t really noticeable when the scarf is being worn.
