SUCCESS TO THE PLOUGH & SHUTTLE - Handmade Sterling Silver Pendant
Inspired by an original 19th century token and re-imagined in solid sterling silver. These piece are all handmade by me; I also run a jewellery business (you can see what I get up to over there at www.hannahpetersjewellery.com)!
The focal point of this Original Talisman shows a weaving shuttle and a plough in beautiful details, and reads SUCCESS TO THE PLOUGH & SHUTTLE also in uppercase script. A very special piece for all those days in your garden or on your allotment, and in celebration of the simple history of weaving and growing.
On the other side is an an old-fashioned straw beehive (known as a skep), on a small stand, surrounded by a swarm of bees. This side is crowned with the motto INDUSTRY HAS IT’S SURE REWARD [sic] in uppercase script, referring to the sweet and sustaining honey that is the bees’ reward and security for all their hard work. Hopefully, we reap what we sow.
Around the rim, it reads in capital letters PAYABLE IN LONDON, surrounded by a naive foliate pattern.
This piece is double-sided, and can be worn either way around, according to your mood or preference.
It measures 27mm across and 32mm tall including the fixed loop but excluding the pendant bail. It weighs a substantial 10.4g. The pendant bail is soldered closed.
This piece is discreetly lasered with my own personal hallmark, sometimes known as an assay mark. This is performed for me, by special request, in the depths of the famous Edinburgh Assay Office, who have been hallmarking precious metals for over 550 years. The hallmarks have been positioned on the outside rim of each Original Talisman so that they do not detract from any of the charming imagery.
Also available in an oxidised finish. As these are handmade pieces, they will have very slight natural variations from one another.
